Shaded by venerable elms, paved with cobblestones and lined with captains' homes and shops, Main Street has preserved its colonial atmosphere. Take time to admire the beautiful brick building of the Pacific Club (1772), which is one of the few buildings to have survived the devastating fire of 1846 which destroyed much of the town.
