Below the crypt and cemetery, the Historial, inaugurated in 2017, has a short but substantial exhibition on the Vosges Front during the First World War. The result of innovative scientific work based on Alsace's experience of a dual historical tradition, the exhibition aims to give a balanced account of French and German memories: this duality of viewpoints is symbolised by the alternating use of languages.
