The Michelin Guide's review
With a surface area of 14 000m2, this is one of the largest cobblestone squares in the country. In the centre is a small Mudéjar fountain, which for centuries was Villa de Leyva's only water source. During the Spanish Reconquista, in the 1810s, gallows were set up here, and many rebels were hanged.
