The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1631 by Baldassare Longhena to ward off a plague epidemic, this immense church is crowned with a colossal dome, flanked by powerful scrolling buttresses; it stands at the mouth of the Grand Canal, forming one of the most iconic sights of Venice. The midday sun streaming through the dome's sixteen windows, enhances the detail of the polychrome mosaic floors. Inside are famous masterpieces such as The Wedding of Cana by Tintoretto, works by Titian on the ceiling of the Sacristy, and altarpieces painted by Luca Giordano.
