Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
The big attraction of this 9C temple is the mummy of the monk Tetsumonkai Shonin (1768-1829) who embalmed himself during his lifetime through drastic fasting and ascetic practices. The temple's coffered ceilings, painted during the 1980s, are also of interest. These stunningly bold and amazingly modern works of manga art by the painters Atsushi and Kubo are intended as good luck charms to protect the roof from fire. There is a magnificent wooden bell hanging in the entrance.
