Floating villages of Kandal and Chong Kos
Michelin Guide
Interesting
City and village
The Michelin Guide's review
Not far from Kampong Chhnang, these two floating villages face one another: with Chong Kos on the left bank and Kandal on the right. The poor inhabitants of the floating villages (mostly fisherman and farmers) have adapted their entire way of life to the Tonlé Sap lake and its seasonal variations, with houses, shops and public buildings, all built on boats. Entire villages will even migrate by a couple of miles every year (towed by powerful barges), as the water levels vary.
