Church of St Nectaire
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
This church was built around 1150 in the Auvergne Romanesque style and has much in common with the other major churches in this style: Notre Dame du Port in Clermont-Ferrand, St Austremoine d'Issoire, Notre Dame d'Orcival etc. The simplicity of the west façade contrasts with the magnificent design of the chevet. Inside, the harmonious unity of style and the 103 vivid capitals in the nave and chancel form a wonderful composition. Be sure to see the 12C bust of St Baudime in the treasury.
