The Marktplatz in the heart of Schwerin is a charming square. It boasts four late-17C half-timbered and gabled houses close to the town hall, while on its northern side stands the Alte Markthalle (Old Market Hall), built between 1783 and 1785 in the Classical style, where stallholders set up shop behind the Doric columns.
