Jousts and tournaments were held here. The 17C Molant mansion at N°34 is topped with a mansard roof. It sports an imposing oak staircase whose ceiling is adorned with a trompe l'oeil sky and wood panelling. The square itself is home to two covered market halls by Martenot in the 19C, which host the famous Saturday morning market of Lices, one of the largest in France.
