The Musei Civici comprise several different museums, including the Spallanzani Museum of Natural History, a section dedicated to palaeontology and ethnology, and an archaeological section housing a collection of Roman and medieval mosaics discovered in the region. The Galleria Antonio Fontanesi exhibits works by local artists from the 15C-20C, including Solitude by landscape painter Antonio Fontanesi (1818-82), a native of Reggio.
