The huge Gotico building and the facade of St Francis Church, a fine specimen of Franciscan Gothic architecture, dominate this square, formerly the heart of politics and business in Piacenza. It owes its name to two Baroque masterpieces by Francesco Moschi, the equestrian statues of the Dukes Alessandro and Ranuccio I Farnese.
