The Michelin Guide's review
The main works of Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka are displayed in this Neo-Renaissance building. Born in 1853, Csontváry, formerly an assistant pharmacist, has only recently been acknowledged. Picasso, who saw his work at a Paris exhibition, is said to have modestly remarked, "I didn't know that this century had another great painter besides me." His most important canvases are exhibited here: The solitary cedar, Baalbek, and other Middle Eastern scenes, plus some interesting graphic work and a remarkable portrait gallery.
