Times Square has long been the epicentre of New York's live entertainment scene. Though it fell into seamy squalor in the mid-20C, the area has been reclaimed, and today pulses with energy from bright neon signs and the constant throng of people passing through. Roughly a million revellers converge on the square each New Year's Eve to count down as a giant ball drops from One Times Square to mark the arrival of the new year.
