The Michelin Guide's review
Called Ta set Neferu ("Place of Perfection") during the time of pharaohs, this deep valley houses some 100 tombs of queens, princes, princesses and a few high-level court dignitaries. Inspired by the Book of the Dead, the relief decor of Nefertari's tomb (no 66), Rameses II's first wife, is almost intact and has retained its splendid original colours. You can also admire the tombs of Rameses II's children, Amun-her-Khepeshef (no 55) and Khaemwaset (no 44). The beauty of the tombs provoked jealousy and, during Ancient times, the Valley of the Queens was pillaged and the mummies stolen from the tombs.
