Climbing Volcán Lanín, permitted from November to March, is only for experienced climbers, who need to be well equipped and have registered with the park. The north face or "classic" circuit starts at the Centro de Informes. The well-signposted footpath crosses a forest of lengas then climbs steadily (5-6hr) to three refuges built on the north face. The following day is for climbing up to the summit (a 6hr walk, one way). Access via the south face is longer and more difficult.
