Sam Houston Memorial Museum preserves two of Houston's homes and details his colorful career. The only man to be governor of two states, Tennessee and Texas, Houston led the fight for Texas independence and its admission into the United States, but parted ways with his adopted home state when he refused to support the Confederacy. His grave is in Oakwood Cemetery.
