The Michelin Guide's review
In the east of Basse-Terre lies a huge wooded park known as the Jardin d'Eau, which is home to exotic species, colourful flowers and fragrant spices, and refreshed by lakes, pools and rivers. Admire the "weeping rock" with its huge philodendron, enjoy lunch at the "Manman d'lo" restaurant (the name comes from the Creole for mermaid) or try your hand at fishing for ouassous (freshwater crayfish) in the crayfish pool here (Thursday mornings).
