Rue Maurice-Viollette

Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
One of the town's liveliest streets (particularly on market days), Rue Maurice-Viollette, formerly Grand-Rue de Dreux is proud of its two 15C timber-framed houses, whose overhanging upper storeys support one another by beams. Also look out for the elegant 16C belfry and former hospital, one of the pillars of which contains the tower of "foundlings", a wooden cylinder with a mattress on which abandoned children were left.
