The castle, on the site of a pre-existing fortress and built in the 11C, stands on a rocky spur. From the original building, the castle was extended downwards following a spiral. In the 17C, the Amato transformed this rough fortress into an elegant aristocratic residence. After stepping through an 18C doorway, you enter the Sala della Congiura (Conspiracy Hall), which has been renovated. There is a superb panoramic view from the tower.
