Budapest Citadel
Michelin Guide
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1851 by order of Franz-Joseph, after the Hungarian uprising of 1848-49 against the Austrians, the citadel is perched at the top of Mt Gellért. A hotel, restaurant, a photo exhibition (period 1850-1945), two cafés and the 1944 Wax Museum are now located on the site. Enter the grounds and walk round the battlements. From this belvedere, the view spreads right over the city below, Pest on the opposite bank and between them both, Marguerite Isle.
