From Barèges, the road enters the valley of Escoubous and winds its way up to the Tourmalet Pass, one of the highest road passes in the Pyrenees (2 115m). From here, the panoramic views are remarkable. The legendary Tour de France rides through each year. At La Mongie, a cable car goes up the Pic du Midi de Bigorre. The downward journey takes you through meadows and grazing land, which contrast with the sheer ravines on the way up, and leads to the Cascade du Garet (waterfall) and refreshing Campan valley.
