The Michelin Guide's review
Former residence of Ambassador John Work Garrett and his wife, this opulent Gilded-Age mansion is an elegant kaleidoscope of almost 100 years of trends in American architecture and interior design. The 48-room Italianate building houses a library of some 8 000 rare volumes collected by the Garrett family. Concerts are held in the theatre (1923) designed by the Russian artist Léon Bakst.
