The Michelin Guide's review
Hungary's answer to Tuscany! Set in a diamond-shaped tract of land between Salföld and Kapolcs, this valley carpeted with lavender fields, orchards and vineyards turns out to have some beautiful geological surprises up its sleeve. These are now protected as part of the Balaton-felvidéki Nemzeti Park (Balaton Uplands National Park), a UNESCO World Geopark. Stroll through the villages, not least because the quality of the restaurants is improving, as young chefs aim to revive their local culinary heritage.
