Situated on a scenic promontory where the Niagara River feeds into Lake Ontario about 15mi north of Niagara Falls, this 22-acre complex has alternately served as a French, English and American military stronghold over the centuries. Its 18C buildings have been restored to their original appearance, and each bears a heraldic plaque identifying the country that erected it. France built the crown jewel of the complex, the French Castle, from which a stupendous view extends over Toronto on the opposite shore of the lake.
