The Michelin Guide's review
On a hilly site, several monuments memorialise the struggle for independence of the colonies of the Spanish Empire. The Battle of Boyacá was fought here on 7 August 1819, in one of the most important military events of the struggle. In the park, the famous bridge, Puente de Boyacá, the epicentre of the fighting, can be seen. A reminder of the event, an 18m-tall monument honouring Simón Bolívar is decorated with allegorical figures representing Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru.
