Samosir Island on Lake Toba is the cradle of Batak culture and steeped in peaceful authenticity. Most of its tourist facilities are located around Tuk Tuk, which forms a headland opposite Parapat. Visit the royal necropolis of Tomok, pop into the traditional houses of Simanindo and Ambarita and make an excursion to the centre of the island, whose landscape is breathtaking. The road back is equally rich in stunning views over the western shore of Lake Toba.
