Also known as the "House of Petar Hektorovic", this palace is the city's most fascinating monument. Designed as a fortress by the poet, scion of one of Hvar's most influential families, its austere façade conceals a marvellous inner garden, laid out around a large fishpond. Inscriptions in Latin around the water's edge chronicle the author's values and the vanity of life. The construction from 1520 to 1569 took up a good part of his life.
