Well away from the tourist trail, Namakwaland (and its capital Springbok) is one of the country's least known regions. Its vast martian landscapes which with the first signs of spring become a multi-coloured carpet of flowers, diamond fields (the haunt of clandestine prospectors) and 19C history forged by French Catholic missionaries make this an interesting destination for visitors.
