Hassan Tower, Rabat
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Dominating a vast esplanade covered in marble and dotted with numerous columns, Hassan Tower is the unfinished minaret of the magnificent mosque which Yacoub el Mansour wanted to have built. Begun in the 12C, construction was never completed, and the 1755 earthquake was the final blow. The awesome -but discreetly decorated- red ochre column of the 44m-high Hassan Tower, a major monument in Rabat, stands across from the Mohammed V mausoleum designed by Éric Vo Toan.
