The Michelin Guide's review
Sagres Point is partly occupied by the fortress, which was built in the 16C and remodelled in the 18C. On the ground of a large courtyard is an immense compass rose spanning 43m in diameter. The old navigation school and the house of Vila do Infante were destroyed by Francis Drake's corsairs in 1587. The promenade around the promontory overlooks impressive escarpments, commanding magnificent views of the bay, Cape St Vincent and the Lagos coast.
