This is the main square where everything of importance took place in ancient times. The large pedestrianised area was the setting for the city's main public buildings - the great basilica where judicial and business matters were conducted, the macellum (covered market), Temple of Apollo (copies of statues of Diana and Apollo), temple dedicated to the Capitoline Triad (Jupiter, Juno and Minerva), Temple of Vespasian, and finally the building of Eumachia.
