The Michelin Guide's review
Intended as a "lighthouse" that would shine over Guadeloupe and the West Indies, the Caribbean memorial of slavery is a daring building some 240m/790ft long built on the former Darboussier sugar cane factory. The extensive 2 ha/5 acre-garden commands a fine view over the bay and the town. The permanent exhibition is devoted to the history of slavery from Antiquity to the present day. Contemporary art also occupies a significant position with works by Guadeloupian artists of the likes of Thierry Alet, Bruno Pédurand and Shuk One.
