Originally an Italian-style park created for Catherine de Medici in the 16C, the garden was redesigned in the 17C by Le Nôtre, who raised the two longitudinal terraces and created the stunning perspective of the central avenue. Numerous 20C sculptures adorn the flowerbeds, quincunxes and the octagonal ornamental pool, in the manner of an open-air museum.
