The Michelin Guide's review
Kazura-bashi will delight thrill seekers! This vine suspension bridge spanning the Yoshino River at a height of 15m was built according to a time-honoured technique: the wooden slats are held together at the sides by a steel cable hidden within a rope made out of plaited vines. Originally (the bridge dates from the 12C), there was no steel cable, only the vines, which the Taira used to sever when they needed to keep assailants at bay. Nowadays, the system is very safe and regularly maintained... but watch where you put your feet, just in case!
