The one and only hill on Kratie plains is home to a Vipassana meditation centre. Shaded by a grove of teakwood, the access stairway is lined by statues of monks with their brown robes and alms bowl. An aedicule on the first forecourt depicts hell's horrible punishments by various frescoes. Continue higher and follow the trail around the hill to see some modern statues illustrating the life and teachings of the Buddha. The peak (127m/416ft) offers a panoramic view of the Mekong river and the plain.
