Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Still a functioning monastery, it symbolises the golden age of Serbia, which was given the name of the Principality of Raška, under the Nemanjić dynasty. Built in the middle of the 13C, its church adheres to the Byzantine model of a dome and a cross floor plan. The oldest frescoes date back to the origin of the monastery, such as the one where the raven feeds the prophet Elijah. The small Chapel of St Nicholas contains 16C frescoes illustrating episodes from the saint's life.
