Kežmarok Castle
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Built on the remains of a monastery, Kežmarok Castle was renovated in 1462 by the Zapoly family, then in the late 16C by the Thokoly family, who began to transform it into a Renaissance-style residence. The exterior of the building has retained its defensive appearance, with round towers and crenelated walls. The interiors, decorated with wall paintings, house a museum dedicated to the history of Kežmarok, as well as crafts from the region.
