The Michelin Guide's review
Houghton Hall was built between 1722 and 1735 for Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's first Prime Minister. Its main rooms are the work of William Kent; look out for the wonderful ceilings and Kent furniture. Admire the Sèvres porcelain which adorns the Marble Parlour and Oudry's white duck in the White Drawing Room. The Tapestry Dressing Room features thrones by Pugin (1812-52) and Mortlake tapestries of the Royal Stuarts.
