Gyor Cathedral
Michelin Guide
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Begun in the 11C, this cathedral has been reworked numerous times. Rebuilt in a Baroque style, it was only finished in the 18C and 19C. The façade is Neo-Classical and the main door dates from 1938. Inside, visitors can admire frescoes by Maulbertsch (1724-96) and a 15C reliquary: the Bust of László Ier. Also worth looking out for is the icon of the Virgin added by an Irish bishop in 1655. According to legend, on St Patrick's day faithful worshippers saw the Virgin weep tears of blood.
