The Knights of the Teutonic Order settled in Friesach from 1203 and built this church on the site of a 12C building, from which frescoes remain in the west choir bay. It has outstanding woodcarvings, like those in the magnificent high altar from 1515. The side aisle is dotted with numerous tombstones of knights, who mostly came from the Teutonic Order's headquarters in Bad Mergentheim.
