In 1926, Spencer Penrose created the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on a rocky, pine-forested hillside. Today, it is home to more than 800 animals representing over 200 different species. The Encounter Africa section, with its elephants, lions and black rhinoceros, is particularly interesting.
