The Michelin Guide's review
The Joux Forest is one of the finest fir forests in France. Covering an area of 2,652ha, it also has broad-leaved trees and a network of footpaths that lead to some wonderful specimens of resiniferous trees, some of which have reached an extraordinary size: almost 50m in height and 1.20m-1.30m in diameter. The star tree, named "President" in 1964, is over two centuries old. Since the 17C, wood from these forests has been used to make boat masts.
