The Michelin Guide's review
Almost a thousand years old, this is one of the two surviving round towers of the Irish type in Scotland. Originally a standalone structure, 34 m tall, it has a 14C steeple and is thought to have served as a belfry, guard post and refuge. The abutments of the narrow; 2 m-high entrance have carvings of clergymen and the lintel a crucifixion.
