The Michelin Guide's review
Bojana Church, a UNESCO site, is in fact three successive churches, surrounded by hundred-year-old trees. On entering, you will be astounded by the frescoes, probably painted in 1259, which form an exceptionally harmonious ensemble. The 240 vivid characters painted on the walls are equally striking. The murals decorating the narthex are, however, the highlight of the visit, depicting scenes of the life of St Nicholas, portraits of Bulgarian saints and of the church's benefactors.
