Historical and archaeological site
The Michelin Guide's review
The ruins of two sanctuaries dedicated to Asklepios lie in Athens' archaeological site. At the foot of the rock face are the remains of the abaton, where patients slept as they waited for the god to reveal to them the therapy they should follow. Adjoining the gallery, a round building housed the sacred spring where the sick came to purify themselves. Digs have also unearthed the fragments of a basilica dedicated to the saints Cosmas and Damian, two Christian doctors of Arab origin.
