High up in Kefalonia, a road shaded by large trees leads to this peaceful monastery with an imposing porch-campanile. Visit above all for the modern church, a pink brick building that reprises Byzantine architectural tradition to the letter. It has a sumptuous decor of frescoes and an enormous chandelier hanging in the transept crossing, before a sizeable white marble iconostasis. A lovely place, pleasantly exuding freshness.
