The Michelin Guide's review
Crowning historic Shooter's Hill, this memorial to George Washington, the first master of Alexandria's Masonic Lodge, is a city landmark. The large granite building, topped by a tiered tower, is modeled after one of the Seven Wonders of the World—the lighthouse on the island of Pharos near Alexandria, Egypt. Begun in 1923, the memorial was built in increments over the course of 40 years.
