The Michelin Guide's review
This Shinto shrine was reportedly built around the end of the 17C to honour the god Susanoo, protector of sailors and fishermen. It is particularly notable for its expertly carved wooden support beams and brackets. The carvings depict maritime landscapes along with plants, animals and mythological scenes that include Susanoo and the dragon Orichi. Don't miss the extraordinary carving of a dragon on the ceiling of the awning of the main pavilion.
