Harau Valley
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Natural site
The Michelin Guide's review
East of Bukittinggi, the Harau valley is a 270ha-nature reserve home to macaques, siamangs, tapirs and wild boar, etc. The scenery is depicted by sheer red-brown cliffs covered in a tangle of creepers and bamboo, framing lush rice fields, while countless waterfalls crash down into the canyon carved out by the River Batang Arau. The area is ideal for climbing and hiking, or scooter or bicycle excursions. Not to be missed!
